I'm John Weaver. A time-served furniture-maker and woodworker in beautiful Worcestershire, UK. I set up The Engraved Oak Company three years ago to fuel my passion for timber.
My Dream Career
To transform a hand-selected piece of oak into something that will take pride of place in someone's home is immensely rewarding. And I'm doing it every day.
I've worked with timber and furniture design all my life, starting with a furniture and product design degree. Whilst I've dabbled with other materials, I've always been drawn back to wood. It's so tactile, so unique.
As a craftworker in wood, I take great pride in my work. You'll find so many designs on my website, but if you want something bespoke, I'd love to hear from you. Private commissions are great fun. We'll work together and create something fantastic.

How we make your personalised gifts for you
From receiving your order, we get to work. Your oak will be selected from our highest-grade kiln-dried European stock (sustainably sourced from FSC and PEFC suppliers). It’s virtually knot-free and displays beautiful graining. Satisfyingly heavy, you’ll appreciate the quality on first sight. We don’t compromise on materials.
Design & review
Your personalised present's design is reviewed and planned. If we have questions at this stage, we'll get in touch. Our attention to detail is reassuring.
Cut & plane
Your oak is cut and planed to size, with colour-matching a priority. Wherever possible, multiple pieces are cut from the same board for a perfect match.
Joining
We join all boards with a fully waterproof glue. Our gifts aren't just ornaments. They're built for a lifetime's work.
Sanded four times
We sand everything four times: first for a flawless flat surface, then after engraving, then twice more for a pristine finish.
Osmo oil finish
The final touch is a coat of Osmo top oil, bringing out the natural beauty of the oak. Any accessories, like hooks or handles, are finished to the same standard.
Dispatch
Every gift is scrutinised before it leaves us. Our courier keeps you informed and texts you on the day with a specific delivery time.
